Hi, Tarek-

In Mashup Center v1.1, we don't have dynamic updating of content from flat files. If you want to change the content of the spreadsheet (excel, csv) or of an XML file, then you actually need to re-upload or re-point it at the updated file.

In version 2.0., coming out in a few months time, we support the ability to have the feed dynamically update when the content changes (and thus the UI will automatically update as well.) You will need to make sure that you point at the file (e.g., have the file at some URL addressable location) rather than upload it.

Hope this helps.

--nicole

Excellent Plug-in. Very beneficial and has solved an aching problem I was having (exporting a file in any from from Mashups Center).

But I would like to inquire about some details in basic Mashups Center processes that will be crucial to the benefits I can obtain from the plug-in. I have the following scenario:

I need to create a normal feed widget that reads from a *.csv spreadsheet which I have saved on my desktop. I need to be able to open this spreadsheet in excel, update it's contents and have these updates appear on screen in the Mashups Center widget. This doesn't happen for some reason.

Please respond asap.

Appreciate your efforts

Tarek R

Erik- thanks for the comment. Over the next couple of days, I will try and post more on the use cases we have seen. One good example for mashups is exactly what you talk about with respect to supply chain. We are calling this pattern "good enough" applications. We have one partner already that has used Mashup Center to help their customer (a manufacturer) better share production forecasts with their decentralized subcontractors (who are often medium-sized businesses with different backends/IT systems.) Using Mashup Center, the partner was able to create feeds of information that can be easily consumed by the subcontractors. In addition, they provided our mashup tooling to better let subcontractors do analysis on the information.

Hope this helps!

Interesting post Nicole, and very nice to see a new blog on the subject. I am looking forward to the beta Mashup Centre being available on Lotus Greenhouse.

I see many opportunities for Enterprise Mashup. Fundamentally we will need to provide suites of well engineered services to fuel the Mashup assembly; I view this as a tool for composite application construction at the business user level, taking us beyond application composition and reuse which has had a tendency to live in the more technology centric process orchestration layers. Mashup should provide the ultimate end user customisation and personalisation and I see lots of exciting possibilities in the manipulation and presentation of data from backend systems (as one example). I hope we will avoid some of the early SOA mistakes however, otherwise the Mashup could overload business critical services and infrastructure and we could have tonnes of wheel reinvention. If you’ve ever wanted a Portlet that no-one would build for you, then a Mashup will be ‘sent from Heaven’. It is still a veneer (a business application composition veneer) over our SOA’s, and we must make sure we are building services to the highest possible standards with this in mind.

Nicole, I'm struggling myself with this question. Many of the examples either seem to focus on geographical information (Google maps etc) or graphically appealing stuff with relatively little value to the corporate world, like weather, traffic etc.

It seems to me that we can try to think of companies for whom this is important (like weather dependent companies) but does it not make more sense to find better cases for mash ups?

I do not pretend to have an answer myself but about the classic 80% of the suppliers in your value chain integration that are to small for full-blown B2B back-end system integration? Would that fit some of the other patterns that you have discovered so far?
